Feb. 10, 2010
Women's track and field runner Christabel Nettey has been named ASU's Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 13th. Her solid performance moved her into the Top 20 nationally in the long jump and she provisionally qualified for the national meet. A trio of meets are on the schedule for the Sun Devils next weekend as groups of athletes will compete at the NAU Invitational in Flagstaff, the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., and the Husky Classic in Seattle. All three meets run Friday and Saturday, February 12-13.
The true freshman turned in a pair of solid performances at the NAU Team Challenge on Saturday in Flagstaff as she won the women's long jump with a leap of 6.20m (20-04.25) to provisionally qualify for the national meet and rank 18th on the current descending order list. Her mark also ranks as the ninth-best all-time in Sun Devil history. Nettey also competed in the 60m hurdles, winning the preliminary round before taking second with a time of 8.49 (converted for altitude), the fourth-best mark in program history.
