Get Your Off-Season Football Fix At The Husky Classic

Feb. 12, 2010

Need an off-season fix of Husky football? While spring practice doesn't begin until March 30, and the 2010 season doesn't kick off until Sept. 4, you can still see a couple of Washington football players in action this weekend in the Dempsey Indoor at the Husky Classic, one of the nation's biggest indoor track meets.

Wide receiver Jordan Polk and defensive tackle Cameron Elisara will both compete in the meet. Polk will run the 60 meters while Elisara will participate in the shot put.

Polk, a sophomore from Portland, Ore., will run in the fifth heat of the 60 meters. The 12 heats of men's competition is slated to begin at 10:25 a.m. Saturday. Incidentally, running alongside Polk in that fifth heat is Oregon tailback LaMichael James. Oregon State wideout James Rodgers is scheduled to run in the first heat of the 60.

Elisara, a junior from Spokane, Wash., is one of 15 athletes in the second flight of shot putters. The shot put competition gets underway at 12:00 noon.

Elisara competed for the Husky track team in both 2007 and 2008, qualifying for the Pac-10 Championships both years. Polk, who won the Oregon 6A state title in the 100 meters as a high school senior, competed for the Huskies during the indoor season last year.

Of course, the entire UW track & field team is also in action in the Husky Classic, which features thousands of college athletes from teams all across the nation. It all gets underway Friday at 6:00 p.m. with the distance medley relays and the 5000 meters. The first event of a full day Saturday begins at 8:00 a.m. Admission is free.
