Women's Golf Open Spring Season At Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. - The Washington Husky women's golf team opens its spring season this weekend at the Peg Barnard Classic at Stanford Golf Course.

The Huskies, led by 27th-year coach Mary Lou Mulflur, are among 11 teams competing in the Bay Area on Saturday and Sunday. Washington will start the spring season ranked 40th by Golfweek.com.

Junior Anya Alvarez is the Huskies top-ranked golfer, earning a 41st individual ranking from Golfweek.com. Alvarez owns eight top-10 finishes in tournaments during her career and the team record for the best three round score ever (-13, 203 at the Las Vegas Shootout in 2008). She will start the season as the team's No. 1 golfer.

Senior Molly Aronnson, junior Karinn Dickinson, sophomore Sadena Parks and sophomore Darcy Richmond round out the Dawgs lineup. Dickinson won the Peg Barnard Classic as a freshman in 2008.

Joining UW in this year's field are host Stanford, California, Fresno State, Hawaii, Long Beach State, Oregon, San Jose State, Santa Clara, Texas and UC Davis.

Cal is the highest ranked team in the tournament, checking in at No. 10 in the latest Golfweek Top-25 poll, while UC Davis and Stanford are ranked No. 22 and No. 25, respectively.

The 36-hole event will feature shotgun starts on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. and Sunday at 8:00 a.m. Admission is free.
