STANFORD, Calif. - The Washington women's golf team is tied for second as a team after round one of the Peg Barnard Invitational and Anya Alvarez is second in the individual standings.

The Huskies shot a 20-over-par 304 to earn a share of second with host Stanford. California leads the tournament by eight strokes after shooting a first round 296 (+12).

'For the first round of the spring it was just okay,' said Husky coach Mary Lou Mulflur from Palo Alto. 'Honestly, I think we're all a little disappointed. But, we're all within striking distance, so that's good.'

Alvarez, a junior from Jenks, Okla., is alone in second after shooting a 72 (+1) on Saturday. Alvarez led the Huskies with three birdies on the day.

Sophomore Sadena Parks (Bethel, Wash.) is the next highest Husky in a tie for sixth after a first round 75 (+4). Karinn Dickinson, who won this tournament as a freshman, is tied for 15 at 6-over 77.
