Game 2 - Arizona 6, North Dakota State 0
The freshman Del Ponte had a bases-clearing double in the fifth after knocking in Baillie Kirker on a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
Sarah Akamine (2-0) limited the Bison to four hits and issued one walk in the complete game.
Whitney Johnson, five weeks removed from graduating high school, held her own in the NDSU (3-1) circle but was chased after 4.2 innings. She scattered four hits and struck out six, but issued eight walks and fell to 1-1 on the season. Randi Parks tossed two-and-a-third innings of one hit ball.
The game was scoreless until the fourth inning, when three walks paved the way for Del Ponte's sac fly with one out to give Arizona (4-0) a 1-0 lead.
Game 1 - Arizona 4, Northwestern 3
TEMPE, Ariz. -- All-American Brittany Lastrapes hit a two-out, two-run walk-off single to propel Arizona past Northwestern, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at ASU's Farrington Stadium.
Lastrapes - who coincidentally had both the first and last hit of the game - roped a line drive that capped a three-run seventh inning for the Cats, who entered the frame trailing by two.
The Laguna Niguel, Calif. native also factored in on two of Northwestern's runs, when a fifth-inning go-ahead homer from Michelle Batts bounced off the shoulder of Lastrapes before going over the wall in left.
With the win, Arizona moved to 3-0 on the young season. Northwestern dropped to 2-1.
NU ace Lauren Delaney (1-1) held the potent UA offense to two hits - both off the bat of Lastrapes, while Kenzie Fowler (2-0) gave up three earned runs on three hits.
Lastrapes doubled off the left field wall to lead off the game for Arizona. During Lauren Schutzler's at-bat, the 3-1 pitch got away from catcher Emily Haug, and her throw to third went into left field allowing Lastrapes to open the game's scoring. Delaney struck out Schutzler, and then struck out the next two batters to end the half.
Northwestern struck back in the third when Robin Thompson scored on a bases-loaded walk with two outs, tying the game at one.
In the Arizona seventh, Stacie Chambers drew a leadoff walk, Baillie Kirker was plunked and both moved up on a wild pitch. Pinch runner Nicole Bryan scored on a passed ball, then, after a walk and a fielder's choice, Lastrapes ripped a pitch down the right field line to plate the winning runs.
