Box Score

Tempe, Ariz. – Sophomore Mary Claire Brenner (Portland, Ore.) set a new school record for the most home runs in a single game with three as the Oregon State softball team (2-3) shut out Southern Utah (1-4), 11-0, in five innings on Sunday afternoon to close out the Kajikawa Classic.

Brenner went a perfect 3-for-3, while freshman Maggie Doremus (San Diego, Calif.) went 2-for-2 and junior McKenna Lowe (Tustin, Calif.) went 2-for-3, chalking up seven of the team’s 12 hits.

Brenner did it again for the fourth time over the weekend, blasting one over the left center fence to score three runs and give the Beavers the early 3-0 lead after one full. Lowe started the offense off for Oregon State with a single to right center and stolen base before sophomore Paige Hall (Portland, Ore.) walked to put runners on first and second.

In her next at bat, Brenner tacked on another solo run in another shot to the same spot as her first one of the day, hitting the Farrington Stadium scoreboard to give the Beavers the 4-0 lead after three.

Brenner belted her third home run of the game in the bottom of the fourth, when the Beavers scored seven runs on a freshman Lea Cavestany (Pittsburg, Calif.) home run, a Lowe triple and a sophomore Ashley Sanchez (Alameda, Calif.) double.

Coming into pitch the final inning for the Beavers, senior Kelly Dyer (Eugene, Ore.) closed out the game quickly to post the run rule in five innings.

Hall earns her second win of the season, improving to 2-3, throwing 4.0 innings. And Southern Utah’s Kara Bendt was charged with the loss after throwing three.

Oregon State heads to College Station, Texas next for the Texas A&M Aggie Invite. The Beavers will take on Lousiana-Monroe and host, Texas A&M first on Friday. Follow the game live through GameTracker or on Twitter – OregonStateSB.
