Flanagan Takes Ninth At U.S. Junior Cross Championships
Feb. 14, 2010
SPOKANE, Wash. - While the eyes of the track world were on the Dempsey Indoor facility this Saturday for one of the nation's biggest track and field meets, on the far side of the state, many of the country's top distance runners were still in cross country mode for the U.S. National Cross Country Championships.
Spokane hosted the national race at the Plantes Ferry Recreation Park and for the third year in a row, a Washington cross country freshman finished in the Top-10 in the U.S. Junior Championships, as Lindsay Flanagan took ninth overall.
Flanagan is coming off an impressive fall where she was a frequent top-seven runner on UW's cross country team that took third at the NCAA Championships. She had also competed at the first two Dempsey indoor meets this year before skipping the Husky Classic to run at the national meet.
Flanagan was joined in Spokane by freshman teammates Grace Green and Breanna Huschka. Flanagan covered the 6,000-meter course in 21-minutes, 5-seconds. Green was 18th in 22:28 and Huschka finished in 21st position in 22:41. Green and Huschka both redshirted the fall.
