Feb. 14, 2010

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- No. 9 Stanford wrapped up play at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships on Sunday morning with a 4-2 victory over No. 10 Kentucky in a consolation bracket matchup.

The Cardinal (6-1) posted a 2-1 mark at the tourney, dropping its opener to No. 8 Texas 4-0 before blanking No. 30 Fresno State 4-0 yesterday afternoon.

Stanford grabbed the doubles point thanks to victories at the top two spots of the lineup. The nation's top-ranked team of Bradley Klahn and Ryan Thacher locked up an 8-4 win over the country's ninth-ranked team of Brad Cox and Eric Quigley to secure the 1-0 lead.

The Cardinal then took a 3-0 lead following singles wins from Greg Hirshman (6-1, 6-1) at the No. 6 spot and Ryan Thacher (6-4, 6-4) at the No. 3 position.

But Kentucky (7-3) responded with a pair of victories on courts one and five, respectively.

Richard Wire's 7-6 (5), 6-2 triumph over Anthony Rossi at the No. 4 spot preserved the 4-2 win.
