Meet The Cardinal: Shannon Koplitz

Each week will feature a Q&A with a different member of the 2010 Stanford Softball team. This week get to know senior Shannon Koplitz.

Nickname: Kop, Kopa, Shan, Shanny, Shanimal

My goals for this season are: As a team, to never be content or complacent, to always pick each other up, and obviously to win the World Series!

A moment in my life I will always remember: Meeting my brother for the first time.

The most noteworthy thing about my hometown: Mardi Gras!  And the food, and the music, and the people.  New Orleans is a place that celebrates life. 

Talent I would most like to have: It would be awesome to be able to play an instrument really well, maybe guitar or violin.  I also want to eventually learn how to cook.

My parents’ occupations are: Chemistry professors.  Both of them.

The perfect meal includes: Really good bread.

My favorite thing about our team is: How much we laugh.

The furthest from home I have ever been is: Italy

The first sport I ever played was: Basketball when I was 6.

The person I would most like to meet is: Julie Andrews

Superstitions/pregame rituals: I try not to step on the chalk lines.

When I leave Stanford, I want to: Help people.

Since coming to Stanford, I have learned: To trust myself, and also how to nap.

I collect: Movies (Disney movies in particular) and good music.

In my off-time, I’m most likely to be found: watching a movie.

Something people would be surprised to know about me: I really like video games and I’m terrified of horror movies

The best thing about Stanford is: The people.

Least Favorite Food: Raw onions, plain tofu, and olives (unless they’re on pizza)

My favorite movie: “Hook” with Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman

My favorite TV show: Glee!  I also really like Ghost Hunters, Bones, and NCIS

Ten years from now I hope to be: Working really hard at something I really love

If I had to cook all of my meals, I’d probably survive on: Eggs, yogurt and peanut butter, apples, and bread 

Sports teams I followed when I was younger: The Seattle Mariners

The place I’d most like to visit: Egypt

I’m afraid of: Black moccasins (type of very evil snake)

Over the summer, I: Went to Europe!  It was awesome

Hidden talent: I know a lot of movie/music trivia

My favorite place that I ever visited is: Italy/Disney World (it’s a tie)

My favorite class at Stanford has been: Earth Systems 10: Intro to Earth Systems

My primary inspiration in sports is: How fun it is to play

I’m most thankful for: My family and friends, and for all of the amazing opportunities I’ve had

The best advice I ever received was: “The only things you can control are your attitude and your effort” 

After my Stanford career is over, I’d like to be remembered as: A good teammate, a great friend, and a genuine person

The reason I chose Stanford University is: (Silly question)

I would love to trade places for a day with: Jodie Foster

My funniest teammate is: Maya Burns. She’s actually one of the funniest people I’ve ever met

The sport I am the worst at is: Anything involving water…

My biggest pet peeve is: People being really selfish or inconsiderate.

Favorite city: New Orleans, obviously!
