Post game quotes: Feb. 18 vs Oregon State

Recap | Final Stats

Head Coach Joanne Boyle

'We talked about the importance of the first five minutes, sometimes we don't come out playing the first five minutes well and so it was a close game and it has been one of our week points. We had to play better defense and tried to deny their key players, mainly about the first five minutes and getting off to a good start.'

'We take one or two quick shots which creates transition for them we talk about that to the kids all the time, just patience down the stretch. We were trying to run two people at Talisa or Palmer and then Eisha came up with big points down the stretch. Good teams step up when they need to and they are not a team that never dies. I didn't think they were a team that would walk in and give us the game. There was more balanced scoring tonight from them than I've seen in a long time.'

On how she feels her defense is playing

'Typically I think we are pretty good but tonight we had some break downs, although I think LaVonda does a good job of running quicker hitters to the hot hand, she does a really good job with that and their strong, Talisa is strong. We were trying to deny her (Talisa) and Palmer as much as we could to make other people score for them, but they still got their looks. We fouled Talisa not as much as tonight and she was going to the free throw line a little bit. But we're going to try to press more and get up tempo a little bit, get them out of running their stuff, and when they start getting tired you have to make lay ups, we mixed it up a little tonight.'

On the play of Rachelle Federico

'In the zone she is very confident, she just needs someone to put the ball up and three of those were down then fell out, she just needs to put the ball up. I also think DeNesha and Talia did a great job on the boards tonight.'

On upcoming game against Oregon

'It will be a track meet, as it always is. They don't really care if your scoring but rather how quickly we can get the ball out of bounds and score on you, and it's all about 3's and lay-ups. We just have to withstand those runs and the press break as well as be ready to take care of the ball and not turn it over. Also, get looks at the basket and allow them no 3's.'

Junior guard Rachelle Federico

On her face-to-face block against OSU leading scorer of the night Haiden Palmer

'You know I was like wait for it, wait for it, jump! You got to read players as the game goes on. She had done that a couple times earlier as well as breaks and driving to the basket and I knew she wasn't going to pump fake me so I went up there and took a chance.'

On how it feels to get so many minutes and being able to contribute so much to the team

'It's exciting, any time you get in you show them what you got and take advantage of it and realize your opportunities and know when your names going to be called. The biggest challenge is the mental game, and next game your prepared so when you get called, shoot when your open, play good D and let the ball roll, and tonight it rolled in my direction.'
