California Competes at Dual Meet against Washington

The California Golden Bears women's gymnastics team fell to the No. 23 Washington Huskies in a dual meet in Seattle. The Bears earned a team score of 189.425 to the Huskies' 195.625.

Freshman Madisyn O'Brien had a solid meet, scoring a 9.675 on the vault, 9.475 on the bars, 9.650 on the beam, and a 9.625 on the floor to earn a 38.425, her highest all-around mark of the season. She finished second in the all-around competition.

The Bears strongest event once again was the floor. Cal scored a 48.475 on the floor. Junior Avery Gee earned a 9.775, the highest mark of the night for any Cal gymnast on any event, on her routine. She tied for third in the event. Freshman Mariesah Pierce continued her string of impressive floor performances, earning a 9.750.

On the vault, Madisyn O'Brien paced the Bears with a 9.675. Freshman Nikki Lew earned a 9.550. Mariesah Pierce had the top beam performance. scoring a 9.675. Madisyn O'Brien scored a 9.650.

The Bears, who close out the season on the road, come back closer to home next weekend, competing against the Stanford Cardinal in a dual meet at Stanford on Sunday, February 28. The meet gets underway at 2 p.m.
