Cal Baseball Shuts Out Southern Utah in a Doubleheader, 22-0 and 10-0

BERKELEY, CALIF. - Dominating both offensively and defensively, the California baseball team shut out Southern Utah, 22-0 and 10-0, Saturday (Feb. 20) in a doubleheader at Evans Diamond. The Golden Bears improved to 3-0 on the year after also holding the Thunderbirds scoreless (14-0) Friday. Cal had great performances on the mound Saturday, first by freshman left-hander Justin Jones (7.0 innings, seven hits, no runs, one walk, nine strikeouts) in his college debut, and then by sophomore right-hander Dixon Anderson in game two (7.0 innings, four hits, no walks, eight strikeouts). Offensively, sophomore outfielder Chad Bunting hit a grand slam and finished with five RBI in game one; while Brian Guinn, Tony Renda, Krist and Devin Rodriguez had three hits apiece in game two.
