Fourth-Ranked Bruins Keep Rolling With 7-2 Win Versus Northridge

LOS ANGELES - Senior Julie Burney posted her first career, two-homer game, senior Megan Langenfeld added another home run and freshman Destiny Rodino and sophomore Aleah Macon combined on a two-hitter, as the fourth-ranked Bruins knocked off Cal State Northridge 7-2 on Saturday at the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament at Easton Stadium.

Burney finished the game 2-for-3, tying a career high with four runs batted in while scoring three times. Senior Megan Langenfeld went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI and two runs scored.

Rodino earned her first collegiate victory, going four innings and giving up an unearned run and one hit with three strikeouts. Macon tossed the last three frames, allowing one run and one hit with three strikeouts.

After 2 1/2 hitless innings by both teams, UCLA broke through in the bottom of the third on a leadoff homer by Burney to make it 1-0. It was Burney's fourth homer of the season and her second of the doubleheader.

The Matadors tied things at one in the top of the fourth. Lauren Olivas led off with a double to center, moved to third on a passed ball and scored one out later on a sacrifice fly to left by Alexandria Alvarado.

UCLA quickly took back the lead and broke it open with five runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Bruins scored a pair of runs on three successive doubles to start the inning from sophomore Andrea Harrison, Langenfeld and junior GiOnna DiSalvatore to make it 3-1. After sophomore Samantha Camuso walked, Burney hit her second home run of the game, third of the doubleheader and her team-leading fifth of the season to right to put the Bruins up 6-1.

Langenfeld hit the Bruins' third home run of the game with two outs in the fifth, a solo shot to right, to make it 7-1. It was the senior's fourth bomb of the year.

The Bruins will close out the Winsberg Tournament on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. against Portland State. Game time has been pushed up an hour for both games, as Portland State and Cal State Northridge will face off at 9 a.m. Gametracker will be available at
