Feb. 22, 2010
TUCSON, ARIZ. -
The No. 13 California Golden Bears finished Day One of the Wildcat Invitational in seventh place. The two-day tournament, hampered by rains and wet conditions, has been shortened from 54 to 36 holes. Sophomores Emily Childs and Joanne Lee lead the Bears at +3 after 18 holes.
The teams, battling heavy rains that were coming down sideways at times, managed to finish one round of 18 holes in a long day at the 6,166 yard, par-71 course at Arizona National Golf Club in Tucson. Arizona State leads the teams at six-over. California is in seventh place at +18.
Joanne Lee and Emily Childs each score a three-over 74, tying them for 13th place among the individuals. Childs, who began play on the fifth hole, birdied seven (her third hole of the day) and had another late birdie on three. Lee, who started on the fourth hole, picked up birdies on the par-5 18th and the par-3 ninth. Junior Pia Halbig and sophomore Daniela Holmqvist both carded 77's.
The final round of play is set to begin with a shotgun start on Tuesday, February 23 at 8:00 a.m. (MT). Live Stats will be available on golfstat.com. The link will also be available on the CalBears.com schedule page.
