Christabel Nettey Named ASU Female Athlete of the Week
Feb. 24, 2010
Women's track and field jumper Christabel Nettey has been named ASU's Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 27th. Her solid performance moved her into fourth place on ASU's all-time list. Nettey has continued her strong start to the year, as she has now collected her second Athlete of The Week Award on the season. The championship season gets underway for the Arizona State University track and field program this weekend as the Sun Devils travel to Dempsey Indoor in Seattle, Wash., to compete in the 2010 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Indoor Championships on Saturday and Sunday.
Christabel Nettey recorded a mark of 6.38m (20-11.25) to win the long jump at the NAU Tune-up event on Friday night and became the first Sun Devil woman to automatically qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships this season as her mark was the exact standard needed for auto qualification. Her leap, which ranks as the fourth-best all-time in school history, is currently the fifth-best jump in the nation this year.
