The 11th-ranked UCLA men's golf team will compete in the USC Invitational at North Ranch CC in Westlake Village, Mar. 1-2.
Play will begin with 36 holes on Monday with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m., followed by 18 holes with tee times from the first and 10th tees at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
The 14-team field features seven teams ranked in the nation's Top 25, including the Bruins, No. 2 Stanford, 14th-ranked Arizona State, No. 15 Oregon State, No. 17 USC and 19th-ranked Oregon.
'We're excited about playing at North Ranch,' said Head Coach Derek Freeman. 'It will be tight off the tee there and we'll have to be careful about where we place the ball, especially on the greens.'
The Bruins have won this tournament four times since 1978 and last took home the first place trophy in 2003. Three UCLA players have won at North Ranch, the last being Steve Conway seven years ago.
In their last start, the Bruins won the Battle at the Beach by one stroke at Pelican Hill GC. The victory vaulted them three spots in the national rankings and boosted their confidence.
'It was an incredible feeling getting our first victory of the season,' said Freeman. 'We got some clutch performances at the end and were able to win by a stroke. It was a big win for our team.'
Sophomore Alex Shi Yup Kim's 10-foot birdie putt on his 72nd hole secured the Bruins' first victory of the year at Pelican Hill. Kim posted a final round 70 (-1) and tied for 11th. Freshman Pontus Widegren fired a final round 64 (-7) and tied for third.
