Cougar Tennis Earn Victory Over New Mexico, 6-1

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State University tennis team won their first away match of the 2010 season against the University of New Mexico 6-1 in Boise, Idaho. The Cougars move to 7-3 on the season.

In doubles play, Elisabeth Fournier and Lea Jansen defeated Ashley Bonner and Anya Villanueva, 8-2 at the No.1 spot. The duo of Andjela Kankaras and Liudmila Vasilieva defeated Laura Richardson and Amy Shippard, 8-3 at the No.2 spot. The Cougs couldn't complete the sweep of the doubles though as Manumea Durie and Kristin Eggleston defeated Jessica Gomez and Ksenia Googe, 8-6.

In No.1 singles, Vasilieva beat Villanueva, 6-2, 6-3. Fournier extended her winning streak to ten matches with a win over Bonner, 6-3, 6-2. At the No.3 spot, Googe beat Shipperd, 6-2, 6-2.

Andjela Kankaras also extended her win streak to seven matches with a win over Eggleston, 6-0, 6-2. Gomez closed out the wins for the Cougs with a victory over Durie, 6-4, 6-2.

The Cougars return to the court, Sunday, Feb. 28 against No. 42 Boise State. Match time is set for 11 a.m.
