SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - Sophomore Nikki Koller and junior Alejandra Llaneza each carded 4-under rounds of 68 to lead Arizona to the first round lead at the inaugural Bruin Wave Invitational, Monday afternoon at the Robinson Ranch Golf Club Valley Course.
The Wildcats shot 283 on the day and hold a three-shot lead over USC and tournament co-host UCLA at 2-under par. Fellow co-host Pepperdine is in fourth place at even par while Stanford and Washington finished the day at 4-over par to complete the top five.
Both players carded bogey-free rounds over the 6,282-yard course to sit one shot off the lead jointly held by Danielle Kang of co-host Pepperdine and Molly Aronsson of Washington. Koller used a stretch of three birdies over holes 4, 7 and 8 to go out in 33, then birdied the par-4 16th hole to wrap up her near flawless round.
Llaneza balanced her four birdies over both sets of nine holes, opening her round with a birdie on the par-4 1st hole. She also finished her round by besting the 18th hole to go along with birdies on the 4th and 12th holes. The pair share 3rd place with Belen Mozo of USC.
Sophomore Isabelle Boineau finished strong to complete her round at 1-over 73, carding back-to-back birdies on the 16th and 17th holes. Fellow sophomore Margarita Ramos was a shot back at 2-over par while Sherlyn Popelka shot 79 on the day.
Second round play is scheduled to begin on the Valley Course at 8:00 a.m. (PT)
