Trojans Tied For Second After Bruin Wave Invitational First Round

Senior Belen Mozo fired a 4-under 68 to lead the No. 5 USC women's golf team into a tie for second-place after the first round of the Bruin Wave Invitational on Monday (March 1) at the Robinson Ranch G.C. in Santa Clarita, Calif.

Arizona finished the first round in first at 5-under 283 with USC and UCLA behind them, tied at 2-under 286. Pepperdine is in fourth at 288.

Mozo is tied for third, one shot off the lead, at 4-under 68 after recording a first-round that included five birdies and one bogey. She made consecutive birdies on 5, 6 and 7. Her 68 breaks the school record for career rounds in the 60s, giving her 13. Former Trojan Irene Cho and current sophomore Jennifer Song each have 12.

Junior Lizette Salas is tied for 11th at par 72 and also sunk three straight birdies, hers on 15, 16 and 17. Freshman Cyna Rodriguez, who had four birdies, and Song are tied for 19th at 1-over 73. Sophomore Inah Park is tied for 74th at 9-over 81.

The 54-hole event continues Tuesday and Wednesday.
