March 1, 2010
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. -
The Oregon State women's golf team is in 13th place after round one at the Bruin Wave Invitational hosted by UCLA and Pepperdine. Senior Brittany Stewart led the Beavers with a 3-over par 75 on Monday.
'Brittany did a nice job of staying with her plan today and played well,' head coach Ris¸ Lakowske said. 'If she continues to manage her emotions on the golf course she'll realize her maximum potential. She's been doing a great job with that in the last few weeks.'
Overall, the Beavers played well finished at 22-over with a first round score of 310 at the Robinson Ranch Golf Club's Valley Course, which is a par-72, 6,282-yard course.
'I was very pleased with our course management and how we handled some pressure situations. This is an opportunity for this team to test itself against the best programs in the country. They should learn a great deal from this experience.'
OSU returns to action Tuesday morning with its second round tee times at 8:45 a.m. on the back nine.
