Bruins Take Four-Shot Lead into Final Round

Led by sophomore All-American Stephanie Kono, top-ranked UCLA assumed first place after two rounds in the Bruin Wave Invitational at Robinson Ranch Golf Club in Santa Clarita, Calif.
On Tuesday, UCLA fared best in the cold and misty elements to post a two-over par round of 290 for an even par, two-round total of 576. The Bruins led co-host Pepperdine and rival USC by four shots (580). Arizona State and Arizona were tied for fourth at 582 (+6).
Individually, Kono fired the day's low round -- a 68 (-4) -- and took over the 36-hole lead at 138 (-6). Kono had no bogeys and four birdies on her card, including a bird at the 18th. She led Pepperdine's Danielle Kang, the first round leader, by a stroke and Washington's Molly Aronsson by two strokes.
UCLA senior Sydnee Michaels was tied for 12th at even par 144 after carding her second straight round of 72. Freshman Tiffany Lua was tied for 14th at 145 (+1) following a score of 73 (+1) on Tuesday. Sophomore Brianna Do was tied for 30th at 150 (+6) following a second round of 77 (+5). Junior Glory Yang was tied for 38th at 151 (+7) after her round of 79 (+7).
Final round action continues on Wednesday with a split start at 7:30 a.m. PST.
