Dawgs Fall To Ducks In Non-Conference Game
March 2, 2010
EUGENE, Ore. - Oregon scored four runs in the first inning and held on for a 6-2 win over the Washington baseball team Tuesday night in a non-conference meeting between the two Northwest foes.
Husky starter Ben Guidos (0-1) took the loss. After the first, he settled in to allow just one unearned run over the rest of his five innings of work.
Oregon starter Alex Keudell (2-0) picked up the victory. In his seven innings, he gave up two runs on six hits.
The Ducks (5-4), who were playing their first game in newly built PK Park, opened up the scoring in the first. After two singles and a bunt put runners at second and third, Nick Wagner singled down the left-field line to plate two runs.
Two more base hits loaded the bases before a walk to Andrew Mendenhall forced in a third run. Shawn Peterson singled to drive in another before a double play ended the inning with Oregon in front 4-0.
In the third, two Husky errors and a Peterson sacrifice fly led to another Ducks run, increasing the lead to 5-0.
Washington (3-4) broke through in the fourth. After a bloop double from Pierce Rankin, a walk and a hitter batter, freshman Jacob Lamb singled to drive in one. Sean Meehan followed with a single to center to cut it to 5-2. But the Ducks limited the damage as a strikeout and a double play groundout ended the threat.
Oregon added insurance in the seventh when catcher Eddy Rodriguez bounced a single through the right side to push across a run.
The Huskies and Ducks square off again on Wednesday in a 2:00 p.m., non-conference game. This weekend, Washington travels to Long Beach State for a three-game series.
