The Oregon State men's golf team concluded play Tuesday at the USC Collegiate Invitational posting the fourth lowest team score of the day. The Beavers got off to a great start, as they played the first three holes in 7-under par. However, they were unable to keep the birdies falling and ended with a final round score of 1-over 285 to finish in a tie for 12th place.

'I was pleased with how the team bounced back from a poor second round,' head coach Brian Watts said. 'We had an aggressive game plan today and we were able to make a lot of birdies early. But we weren't able to get any putts to fall later in the round.'

The team was led by three seniors in the final round with Diego Velasquez and Paul Peterson carding 2-under 69's and Mike Barry shooting 72. Sophomores Morten Madsen and Jonnie Motomochi shot rounds of 75 and 76 respectively.

'I came into the tournament seeking revenge after struggling here when I last played here two years ago at North Ranch Country Club,' Velasquez said. 'I was determined to play with no fear, and regardless of the outcome I was not going to change my game plan. Other than a few putts not falling, I walk away feeling good about the tournament.'

The USC Collegiate Invitational was a two-day, 54-hole tournament played at the North Ranch Country Club, a par-71, 6,869-yard course with Bermuda grass.

'It will be nice to have two weeks before our next event to work on our games,' Watts said.
