Trojans Challenge For Lead At Bruin Wave Invite

Sophomore Lizette Salas, senior Belen Mozo and sophomore Jennifer Song are all within in the top 15 of the field and helping the No. 5 USC women's golf team vie for its third tournament title this season after two days of the Bruin Wave Invitational on Tuesday (March 2) at the Robinson Ranch G.C. in Santa Clarita, Calif.
USC (286-294) is tied for second with Pepperdine at 4-over 580 after two rounds, trailing first-place UCLA (576) by four strokes.
Salas, tied for 11th after the first round, moved into a tie for fifth at 1-under 143 (72-71) with a team-best second round. Salas was 3-under through five holes and 2-under at the turn. She bogeyed 10, 11 and 12 consecutively but birdied 17 and 18 to get back under par for the round.
Mozo is tied for 12th at par 144 (68-76) while Song is tied for 14th at 1-over 145 (73-72). Song had three birdies on the day to offset a late bogey and double bogey while Mozo had one birdies against four bogeys.
Four of five Trojans birdied the 18th hole to help make up some lost ground on the final hole.
