March 3, 2010
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - Husky senior Molly Aronsson notched her third career top-10 finish and the Huskies placed seventh at the Bruin Wave Invitational which wrapped up on Wednesday.
Aronsson, from Shelburne, Vt., had her worst day of the three-day tournament on the Valley Course at Robinson Ranch, but was able to survive her final round 3-over 75 and tie for fifth. After starting her day +5 through eight holes, Aronsson was able to regroup over the final 10 finishing holes. She birdied No. 9, and added three more on the back to remain in contention. She secured her top-10 finish by birdieing No. 18.
'She had a great week,' said Mulflur of Aronsson, who shot a career-best 67 in the first round. 'For her to be in that situation and give herself the opportunity to win the golf tournament is excellent. I'm excited for her - it was a good finish and a really good field.'
Karinn Dickinson had the best round of the day for the Huskies with a 2-under 70. She had four birdies - including one on No. 18 - and was 4-over-220 for the tournament to notch a top 20 finish.
Anya Alvarez was the only other Husky to finish in the red on Wednesday. She shot a 1-under 71 and finished the tournament +7 (223) for a 29th-place finish.
Washington was seventh overall - one stroke behind New Mexico, but one stroke ahead of 13th-ranked Stanford. Southern California was first, followed by Arizona State, Pepperdine, UCLA and Arizona. Pepperdine's Danielle Kang was in first place by two strokes when this story was published.
'We may have lost to New Mexico by one shot, but it was good that we were able to beat Stanford,' said Mulflur. 'It was a good week despite stumbling a little bit down the stretch today. We're starting to see some better results from the hard work, so that makes me very pleased.'
