Diamond Dawgs Bounce Back In 5-3 Win At Oregon

March 3, 2010

EUGENE, Ore. - Sophomore center fielder Caleb Brown notched three hits and scored two runs as the Washington baseball team beat Oregon, 5-3, Wednesday in the second game of a two-game, non-conference series at PK Park.

The Huskies bounced back from a 6-2 loss Tuesday at Oregon to even their season record at 4-4 while the Ducks dropped to 5-5 on the year.

Sophomore lefty Brandon Rohde (1-0) came on in the third to pick up the win. Geoff Brown combined to work four and two-thirds scoreless innings to keep the Huskies in front.

UW freshman Adam Cimber, who came on in the eighth, allowed the first two runners of the ninth to reach base on a walk and an infield single before getting the first out. But, after a single scored one to bring the potential winning run to the plate, Cimber induced a game-ending double play to pick up his second save of the year.

Oregon starter Madison Boer (0-1) allowed four runs on eight hits in the loss.

Washington scored the game's first run in the second. Caleb Brown reached on a one-out single and then came in all the way from first base on a long double to left from freshman third baseman Jacob Lamb.

In the third, the Huskies opened the inning with three straight singles to load the bases. David Bentrott came in to score on a groundout from Troy Scott and Pierce Rankin followed with a sacrifice fly to right to bring home Julien Pollard, increasing the UW lead to 3-0.

Oregon broke through for its first runs in the third. After a one-out single from KC Serna, Marcus Piazzisi homered to right, cutting the Husky lead to 3-2.

Washington got one of those runs back in the top of the fourth as Caleb Brown singled, moved to second on a walk and scored on a Bentrott single, making it 4-2.

Both teams' offenses fell silent until the ninth, when Lamb singled, moved to third on a Miles Kizer double and scored on a wild pitch to increase the lead to 5-2.

Bentrott, Lamb and Doug Cherry each recorded two hits for the Huskies. Danny Pulfer paced the Ducks with three singles in four at bats.

This weekend, Washington travels to Long Beach State for a three-game series. Game times are 6:30 p.m. on Friday, 5:30 on Saturday and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
