Remynse Does it Again as Bruins Down Women of Troy, 4-3

March 3, 2010

LOS ANGELES - For the second time in four days, junior Andrea Remynse picked up a big win in a pressure situation, as her three-set victory at court No. 3 propelled the fourth-ranked UCLA women's tennis team to a 4-3 victory over No. 12 USC at the Marks Tennis Stadium on Wednesday.

With the dual match tied at 3-3, Remynse downed Danielle Lao, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 on Wednesday to give the Bruins a thrilling win over their cross-town rival. Remynse has been key in the clutch lately, as she did the exact same thing on Sunday by beating Cal's Mari Andersson, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 to clinch UCLA's 4-3 upset of the third-ranked Bears.

UCLA actually owned a 3-1 lead in Wednesday's match, as the Bruins won the doubles point and then received singles wins from Pamela Montez (court No. 4) and Maya Johansson (court No. 6). But the Trojans stormed back, taking a pair of three-set wins to tie the match at 3-3. The featured showdown of the day was at court No. 1, where third-ranked Maria Sanchez of USC edged fifth-ranked Yasmin Schnack, 5-7, 6-3, 6-1. The tying point came at court No. 5, as 91st-ranked Valeria Pulido downed 124th-ranked Stephanie Hoffpauir, 6-7(7), 6-1, 7-5.

Pulido's win set the stage for Remynse to clinch it, as the Bruin junior, who was trailing 2-4 in that final set, won the final four games of the match to give UCLA the win.

UCLA will play its first Pac-10 counting match of the season this Saturday against Oregon in Eugene.
