On The Road With Women's Hoops - Seattle
March 5, 2010
SEATTLE - The team has just arrived to Bank of America Arena for a shootaround prior to the game tonight against Washington. OSU arrived last night and had a quick dinner before the team regathered for study hall.
Obviously, it's important for the team to do well in its classes, and the end of the Winter Term is getting close, so that emphasis becomes even more important. Academic advisor Lindy Brown is on the trip - as she always is - and makes sure the team gets whatever help it needs during study time. Today, they studied after breakfast in the Pike Room on the fourth floor of the Sheraton located on Sixth Street. The hotel has a fantastic view of ... The Cheesecake Factory. To the other side is Puget Sound, which undoubtedly is a fantastic view, and shows what a great location the hotel is at. Our radio guy, Ron Callan, said the world-famous Space Needle is a nice 15-minute walk away.
Coming in on our flight from Portland, it was also easy to spot Qwest Field and Safeco Field, home of the Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Mariners, respectively. They're both pretty massive sports facilities, but from a couple-thousand feet up, they're certainly smaller, but it's fun to catch some of their details you don't normally get to see when you're inside.
The hotel is naturally six blocks away from Puget Sound, which is where the famous Pike Street Market is located. Remember seeing the famous fish toss when teams and events are in Seattle? That's where it's located. It's quite the market, too, as you can find various things, including Octopus in addition to the usual fare like Salmon and Crab.
Unfortunately, there's not much of a chance to do sightseeing on this trip as the team will be leaving for Pullman Saturday morning. OSU will leave the Seattle Airport just before 10 a.m. for a direct flight to Pullman. Then it's a short drive to Moscow, Idaho where the team will stay for its game with Washington State on Sunday.
