Softball Falls to Northwestern

March 5, 2010

Fullerton, Calif. – The Oregon State softball team (5-11) fell to Northwestern (7-9), 12-3, in  six on Friday afternoon in the team’s first game of the CSUF DiMarini Invitational at Anderson Family Field.

Sophomore Paige Hall (Portland, Ore.) and junior McKenna Lowe (Tustin, Calif.) both chalked up mulit-hit games to lead the Beavers with 3-for-4 and 2-for-3 performances.

Northwestern got on the board first, taking a 2-0 lead in the opening inning on a two-run shot by Adrienne Monka over dead center field.

But Oregon State quickly answered back, powering through to take the 3-2 advantage in the bottom half of the inning behind a RBI single by Hall and a two-run homer by junior Audrey Roderfeld (Vista, Calif.) to score Hall.

After playing through a scoreless second, the Wildcats tacked on three more on a RBI single and a two-run scoring error in the top of the third before adding another in the top of the fourth on a pair of Beaver fielding errors.

Northwestern continued to add runs in the fifth and sixth innings to build a nine-run lead through six that would stick as the game closed due to the run rule.

Hall was charged with the loss after throwing 5.1 innings, facing three in the top of the sixth. Her record is now 3-10. Freshman Marina Demore (Vancouver, British Columbia) came in relief for the Beavers. Meghan Lamberth earned the win after throwing all but 0.1 innings, coming in relief for Jessica Smith in the bottom of the first.
