Three Duos Reach Round Of 16 At Pacific Coast Doubles

LA JOLLA, Calif.- Three Stanford doubles teams advanced to the round of 16 on Friday afternoon during the opening day of play at the Pacific Coast Doubles.

Stanford's top pair of Bradley Klahn and Ryan Thacher held off UCLA's Kris Kwinta and Harel Srugo 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 before dismantling Cal's team of Bozhidar Katsarov and Riki McLachlan 6-1, 6-2.

The Cardinal's No. 2 team of Alex Clayton and Richard Wire also qualified, outlasting San Diego's Abdullah Hashem and Nila Schive 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 and then coasting past the duo of Chad Kawahara and Dylan Trent 6-1, 6-1.

The freshman pairing of Matt Kandath and Denis Lin also reached the round of 16, defeating UC San Diego's Erik Elliott and Jake Fellow 7-5, 6-3 before taking down the team of Tyler Deming and Brook Deming 6-4, 6-1.

Two other Stanford teams entered in the draw won their opening round match before falling in the round of 64.

Greg Hirshman and Ted Kelly took down UC San Diego's Armaun Emami and Austin West 6-2, 6-3 before dropping a 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 decision to Pepperdine's Hugh Clarke and Finn Tearney.

Meanwhile, Sam Ecker and Walker Kehrer posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Villanova's Liam Bohonnon and Kyle Grandin before falling 6-2, 6-4 to San Diego's Ryan Keckley and Brett Masi.
