FULLERTON, Calif. - The 10th-ranked Stanford softball team dropped a 3-0 decision to North Carolina, Saturday, at the DeMarini Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. The Cardinal drops to 14-3, while the Tar Heels improve to 14-3 on the season.
Stanford struggled to find any kind of offense against North Carolina's All-American pitcher Danielle Spaulding. The Tar Heel struck out 18 of the 22 Cardinal batters she faced. Spaulding was throwing a perfect game through six innings, but in the top of the seventh senior Alissa Haber recorded an infield single for the lone Stanford hit of the game.
Freshman Teagan Gerhart took the loss in the circle for the Cardinal. She struck out five Tar Heels, while giving up five hits and three runs.
Stanford will continue play at the DeMarini Invitational, Saturday, facing Northwestern at 6 p.m.
