Higgins Named Big 12 Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas - University of Colorado junior guard Cory Higgins was named Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week, for games of March 1-6 in voting by a panel of media covering the Conference. Higgins picked up his second career player honor.

The Danville, Calif. native, averaged 24.5 points and 4.5 rebounds as the Buffaloes picked up victories at Nebraska (81-68) and against Texas Tech (101-90). The junior guard started with 19 points, a team-high six rebounds, four steals and four assists versus the Huskers. He followed that performance with a game-high 30 points, three rebounds and two steals against the Red Raiders.

It was his third 30-point game of 2009-10 and the fifth of his career. In two contests, he shot 71.4 percent from the field (15-of-21), including 1-of-3 from beyond the arc. Higgins also made 18-of-24 (.750) free throws.

Colorado earned the No. 8 seed at this week's Big 12 Basketball Championships played at the Sprint Center in Kansas City. The Buffaloes will play No. 9 seed Texas Tech, Wednesday, March 10 at 10:30 a.m. (MST). The game will be televised locally by Altitude Sports & Entertainment.
