USC Shines Despite The Rain At The Ben Brown Invitational
March 7, 2010
USC's second week on the track was much like the first as the team piled up the victories at the Ben Brown Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. despite the bad weather which limited the Trojan's efforts on the weekend. Six Trojans won events and another posted the top collegiate mark in an event, while five Trojans posted PRs.
For the men, Oscar Spurlock won the 110m HH with a time of 14.25, Nate Anderson the 800m with a time of 1:51.47 and freshman Reggie Wyatt the 400m dash with a time of 47.41. Also, Derek Scott placed second in the pole vault, but had the top collegiate clearance of 16-6.75 (5.05m). John Carley had a PR of 14:51.91 to place sixth in the 5000m 'B' race.
On the women's side, Aareon Payne won the 100m dash with a time of 11.84, Myra Hasson the 400m with a time of 55.45 and Dalilah Muhammad the 400m IH with a time of 61.19. In the women's 5000m 'B' race, freshman Kathleen Moloney placed third with a time of 17:29.33 which is a PR and the seventh-fastest 5000m time by a USC female. Bridget Helgerson placed 13th in the same race with a PR of 17:56.84. Devon Rennie placed 11th in the javelin throw with a PR of 115-7 (35.23m) and for the second consecutive week, Candace Bailey had a new PR in the triple jump with a leap of 36-8.25 (11.18m) to place seventh.
