California Heads to Davis for Sunday Tri-Meet

The California Golden Bears compete in their third of three consecutive Northern California meet, heading to Davis on Sunday, March 14 for a tri-meet against the UC Davis Aggies and the Texas Women's University Pioneers. The first rotation begins at 2:00 p.m. This is the first meeting of the season against the Aggies, a Northern California neighbor. TWU is a Division II school. This is the first ever meeting between the two programs.

Last Week: San Jose State Tri-Meet California posted their second highest team score of the season at the San Jose Tri-Meet. The Bears improved their team scores in every event but the bars from the previous meet.

All-Around Freshman Mariesah Pierce posted her first All-Around score of her young career, earning a 38.550. It was the third highest All-Around mark of the season for the Bears. Senior Sophia Hocini is the only Cal gymnast this season to earn a higher all-around score. Hocini, a 2009 West Regional All-Around competitor, scored a 38.825 and a 38.775 in her two meets this season before being sidelined with an injury to her Achilles. Junior Avery Gee was Cal's other All-Arounder, earning a 38.100.

Vault Freshman Arla Rosenzweig had one of Cal's top performances of the night with her vault, earning a 9.725 in the Bears' final rotation. Sophomore Alex Leggitt matched her season high with a 9.650 for her vault.

Bars For the second straight meet, Stina Olivere led Cal on the bars with a 9.650.

Beam Freshman Madisyn O'Brien, in one of her to events she competed in, led Cal with a 9.750. Mariesah Pierce scored a 9.700. Avery Gee earned a 9.675.

Floor For the fifth consecutive meet, the floor was Cal's strongest event. Freshman Mariesah Pierce nailed her floor routine, earning a 9.850. It was the top mark for any Bear in any event so far this season. Avery Gee earned a 9.775 and Alex Leggitt matched her 9.675 score from last week's meet.

Next Up - Saturday, March 20, Cal at Denver The Golden Bears will compete in their final regular-season meet of 2010. They will be at a Quad Meet in Denver, competing against the University of Denver, Arizona, and NC State.
