Del Ponte Named Pac-10 POW
March 9, 2010
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- ARIZONA freshman third baseman Brigette Del Ponte was named Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week for March 1-7, commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Del Ponte, a native of Peoria, Ariz., hit a home run in four consecutive games and knocked in 13 RBI on seven hits over the weekend to help lead the Wildcats to an undefeated 4-0 mark. In a doubleheader sweep of New Mexico State last week, Del Ponte turned in back-to-back three RBI performances. In Arizona's 13-5 run-rule victory over St. John's, Del Ponte hit a grand slam, and an RBI-single notched her fifth RBI of the game. She now leads the Wildcats in batting average (.514), RBI (26) and is tied for the lead in home runs (6).
This is Del Ponte's first weekly honor and the 126th all-time for Arizona.
Arizona hosts St. John's on Thursday at 5 p.m. before welcoming four more teams to the Wildcat Invitational Friday through Sunday.
