Edrick Floreal Named Men's West Regional Coach of the Year

NEW ORLEANS - Franklin P. Johnson Director of Track and Field Edrick Floreal has been named the men's West Region Coach of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The awards were announced on Tuesday for the 72 athletes, assistant coaches and head coaches that received regional awards for their efforts during the 2010 indoor track & field season in NCAA's Division I as voted by the nation's coaches.

Floreal led Stanford to a second-place finish at the 2010 MPSF Indoor Championships where the Cardinal scored 95.5 points. Over the course of the indoor season, the Cardinal achieved 16 provisional-qualifying marks and two automatic-qualifying marks, and they enter this weekend's NCAA Indoor Championships ranked 20th in the nation.

At this weekend's NCAA Indoor Championships, the Stanford men will be represented by eight men in three individual events and a relay. Elliott Heath and Jake Riley will compete in the 5,000 meters, Justin Marpole-Bird will compete in the 3,000 meters and Dylan Ferris will compete in the mile. In addition, the distance medley relay of Marpole-Bird, Ferris, JT Sullivan and Amaechi Morton will compete.

Floreal has been named regional coach of the year on the women's side for both the indoor and outdoor seasons, but this is his first honor on the men's side.
