Ruby Roberts Signs with Washington State

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Ruby Roberts, a two-time state cross country champion from Kingston High, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend and compete for Washington State University starting in the fall of 2010, Cougar Head Coach Rick Sloan announced Tuesday.

Roberts was the Washington 2007 and 2009 state 2A cross country champion. She also claimed the 2A title in the 3200m in the spring of 2008.

Excelling in the classroom as well as on the track, Roberts carries a 3.9 grade point average and was named the Kitsap county BAR Scholar Athlete and the Olympic League Scholar Athlete. She holds school records in the 800m, 1600m, 3200m, 3-mile, 5000m, and 4x400m relay. Roberts finished 18th in the 2009 Footlocker Cross Country West Regional meet.

'Ruby is an exceptional student athlete,' Cougar Cross Country Coach Pete Julian said. 'We believe she will make an impact in the Pac-10 and play a vital role on both our cross country and track teams.'

Roberts joins eight previously announced distance runners joining the Cougars' 2010-11 teams:
