Cats to Host NIT and Callaway Match Play

TUCSON, Ariz. – Two premier college golf tournaments will be played in Tucson over the next two weeks. The Wildcats play host to the National Invitational Tournament, March 17 and 18, and the Callaway Match Play Championship March 21-23.
The NIT will be played at The Omni Tucson National Golf Course, with two rounds being played March 17, and the final round held March 18.
The field includes Arizona, Purdue, Tulsa, Baylor, SMU, Wyoming, Colorado State, Texas, Arizona “B”, New Mexico and Texas Tech.
New Mexico won the event in 2009, and was led by Nick Geyer, who took home the individual medal. Arizona finished second behind a fourth-place effort by Jonathan Khan.
The Callaway Match Play Championship will be held at the Ritz Carlton Golf Course, the site of the PGA Tour’s Accenture Match Play.
The sixteen team field will compete in four rounds of head-to-head play, with a champion being crowned March 23.
The field includes Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado State, Indiana, Iowa, Middle Tennessee, New Mexico, San Diego, USC, Stanford, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, UCLA, UNLV and Washington. The teams will be seeded March 17.
Middle Tennessee will look to defend its title after winning the 2009 event. UCLA is also a defending champion in the event; the Bruins took home the 2007 title. UCLA is making its sixth appearance in the tournament, tied for the most appearances along with Arizona. The Cats are making their first appearance in the Callaway Match Play in four years; Arizona’s highest finish in the event was 3rd in 2002.
