March 10, 2010

Corvallis, Ore. – Eric Marchildon will join the Oregon State volleyball staff to serve as the volunteer assistant coach for the 2010 season, announced Wednesday by head coach Taras Liskevych.

'We look forward to having Eric work with our program in all facets of training in the gym,” Liskevych said. “He has a lot of experience with club volleyball in Canada and will be a valuable addition to our staff.'

Marchildon joins the Beaver coaching staff after serving as the Jeff’s Crestwear Volleyball Club (JCVC) Fall and Club Season Coordinator and Coaches Coordinator of both the female and male divisions, as well as serving as the 18U Extreme Women’s Team head coach in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada for the past two seasons. He has been involved with the club since 1999. He received the 2002 & 2006 Saskatchewan Female Development Coach of the Year and was awarded the 2008 SVA Marlene Hoffman Community Volunteer Award.

'The volunteer opportunity I have been given at OSU is a golden one,” Marchildon said. “I feel very privileged to join Taras Liskevych and his amazing personnel, whose quality and wealth of knowledge is simply remarkable. I am thrilled for this international coaching experience, and I look forward to helping the team prepare for a successful season.'

His most recent experience in provincial volleyball coaching was as an assistant coach at the 2009 Saskatchewan Volleyball Association (SVA) 20U Women Canada Games, helping lead the team to a fifth place finish.

Marchildon has coached or assisted with the development of 10 athletes that have been identified by the Canadian National Youth team, and he has coached at the club level over 20 athletes that have gone on to play university or college volleyball, including 12 that were recruited at the NCAA Division I level.

As a player, Marchildon played at the collegiate level in 1994-95 at Cégèp de Jonquière as the first and secondary setter, while leading his high school team to a 1993 AAA provincial silver medeal as the starting setter for Collège Mathieu in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan.

Current volunteer assistant coach, Nestor Iparraguirre, will remain on the staff in the role as special consultant for the next season, his fourth season.
