University of Oregon quotes

Coach Ernie Kent

On the game:

very difficult to beat a team three times I thought Washington State was great in the game. They really hung in there and battled back. We had them down a couple different times 10 or 12 points.Clay stepped in and made some great plays.

We have raised that bar so dog-garn hard that it seems like year after year there is a guy that everyone wants to beat up and pick on, but he keeps grinding through. He is a very special and gifted player.I thought he was tremendous.

On off-the-court distractions:

I am not here to talk about any distractions. This team has dealt with a lot of noise as we call it for the last two years I am proud with the way they handled themselves, this is a very mature group of young people because they are young. I just thought they were excellent coming down here in this environment.

On Tajuan Porter's game:

It is one of his best games I have seen him better but I just thought I have never seen him play tougher. I just thought he gutted us through the game and willed us to win a game.

Obviously E.J.'s [Singler] play was huge to get us into overtime.

Tajuan Porter

On his own performance:

On how important it was to come in and impress the Tournament:

It was the last game of my career, but I’ve got to give this guy [E.J. Singler] credit next to me. He deserves all the credit, his tip-in almost brought tears to my eyes.

E.J. Singler

On game-winning shot:

I definitely knew it was on time.I just wanted to continue to play. It is TP's [Tajuan Porter] senior year and I know it means a lot to him. I'm glad to do everything I could to get us into overtime and keep us playing.

Washington State University

Coach Ken Bone

Opening Statement:

It was a tough way to go out. In the first half we didn't do a good job of taking care of the ball and our turnovers ended up being costly. In the second half, I thought overall we did a good job against a very talented Oregon team. They have a lot of talent and they're very difficult to stop on the defensive end, especially (Tajuan) Porter who had a very good game. A lot of the credit needs to go to him and what Oregon was able to do. The free-throws really hurt us too, we went 12 for 25 and in a tight game like this you can&'t shoot that poor from the free-throw line and expect to win.

On if Washington State will continue to practice in hopes of postseason play:

Yes. We will continue to practice and see what happens.

On the close finishes this year against Oregon:

Both of those games were two great games and Oregon was fortunate both times.

On the adjustments made at halftime:

We took care of the basketball better. We still had a few turnovers but I think we had 11 at halftime and 17 for the game. We had 11 in 20 minutes and 6 in the last 25 minutes. That gave us a chance even though we got down by 10 or 12 points. It gave us a chance to get back just by taking better care of the ball

On contributions from Marcus (Capers) and Brock (Motum):

They both had a nice game. We really needed that and without their contributions from the bench I'm not sure we would be sitting here now, but probably a half-hour ago. They both came in the game and did an outstanding job.

Nikola Koprivica

On his clutch shots down the stretch:

I missed my free-throw and I needed to make it for us to win. That's what I'm supposed to do. I'm a senior and I've got to lead these guys.; They expected me to make plays. It's tough, definitely We had them, and I feel like I can't believe we lost this game.

On losing to Oregon for the third time this season:

It's tough because I thought we were the better team today. You know, last second shot, that thing just bounced in. We missed some free throws. Just unlucky. We got to take care of our business. We cannot lose on our own. We've got to make the other team beat us and not beat ourselves.

Marcus Capers

On losing to Oregon three times this season:

Anytime you lose three times in a row to someone, it hurts. It's real hard. We felt like we got cheated the first time. A matter of seconds between us winning and losing

On how it feels that this might be their last game:

real hard.;Anytime something like that happens, I don't know who got the tip in, but that separated us from playing Cal tomorrow. It's hard anytime you lose like that.
