March 12, 2010
The Arizona State diving team continued to excel as they wrapped up day two of the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships. Five Sun Devils finished in the top 10 to conclude the springboard dives.
Elina Eggers punched her ticket to the NCAA championships as she placed second on the three-meter springboard. She added 333.45 points to her preliminary score of 309 to finish runner-up and earn a bid to her first NCAA Championships. Eggers will take on the 10-meter platform tomorrow. She is the first ASU woman diver to qualify since Erin Hobbs in 2006.
Constantin Blaha continued to dive well as he finished third on the 1-meter with 753 total points. Blaha moved up after finishing fourth in the preliminaries to reach the podium for the second straight day.
Riley McCormick and Cameron Bradshaw finished sixth and seventh respectively. McCormick totaled 673.30 points on the day while Bradshaw earned a combined total of 668.30. McCormick will compete on the tower tomorrow.
'Riley hasn't earned a qualifying spot yet, but all he has to do is place in the top three on the platform tomorrow, and he's in,' said 13th year head coach Mark Bradshaw. 'Cameron has a shot at getting in. It depends on tomorrow's results , we'll just have to wait and see. He dove pretty well, just a few mistakes here and there, but was able to keep himself in the thick of things.'
Brittany Jumer placed eighth on the 3-meter. After scoring 270.2 points in the preliminaries, she added 295.25 to her total and earned 56.45 on the day.
'Brittany dove well but not quite good enough for a qualifying spot,' said Bradshaw.
The NCAA Zone E Championships will wrap up with the tower tomorrow.
