March 13, 2010

·         UCLA will play Stanford tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. for the 2010 State Farm Pac-10 Tournament title and the Pac-10's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.  These teams have met 6 prior times in the Tournament; UCLA's one win came in the 2006 title game (85-76 in OT).

·         It will be UCLA's second appearance in the title game.  It beat Stanford in 2006 (85-76, OT).  The Bruins will attempt to become the first #2 seed to win the Tournament title.  The top seed has won all three contests with the #2 seed.

·         UCLA now has a 2-4 record in Tournament semifinal games, and 11-7 overall.  USC is 1-5 in semifinal games and 7-9 overall in Tournament games.

·         This was only the second meeting between these two rivals in the Tournament.  UCLA beat USC 73-52 in a quarterfinal matchup in 2008.

·         The #2 seed is now 3-3 in #2-#3 matchups.

·         After USC took an early 5-3 lead, UCLA went on an 11-2 run in the next 7:09.   Three times UCLA built 12 point leads, the last at 2:27 (28-16).  USC closed the half on an 8-2 run, capped by a 3-point field goal by Heather Oliver at the buzzer (30-24).

·         The Trojans used a 7-0 run early in the 2nd half to close to within one point (32-31).  At 16:26, USC's Aarika Hughes sank a 3-pointer to tie the game (34-34) for the first time since early in the game (5-5).   Kari LaPlante's 2 free throws at 5:51 put USC into the lead (49-48) for the first time since it led 5-3.  USC led 53-51 but a 6-0 Bruin run made it 57-53 at :19.1.

·         The Bruins are now 18-3 when leading at the half this season; the Trojans fell to 8-10 when trailing at halftime.

·         USC's Aarika Hughes scored in double figures for the 10th time this season.  Ashley Corral did so for the 21st time.

·         Bruin Jasmine Dixon achieved her 6th double-double of the season (10 points-12 rebs.)  It was her 20th 10+ point effort of the season and with her 7th double digit rebounding game.  Her 12 boards were her 2nd most this season.  Teammates Darxia Morris (15th time this season) and Markel Walker (19th time this season) scored in double figures.

·         Corral's 15 3-point field goal attempts tonight set a Tournament single game record (13-April Cook, WSU vs. Arizona, 3/12/09); her 23 attempts in the Tournament set a record for players appearing in two games and tied her for 2nd regardless of the number of games played.  Her 5 3-pointers made tonight tied her for 4th on the single Tournament game list.
