Vogel Tied For Lead Entering Final Round At Southern Highlands

Freshman T.J. Vogel is tied for first while the No. 15 USC men's golf team is alone in fourth after the second round of the 2010 Southern Highlands Collegiate Maters in Las Vegas on Saturday (March 13).

USC is 19-over 603 (296-307), 10 strokes back of host UNLV while UCLA is second (600) and Texas A&M (602) is third.

Vogel, who was second last week at the USC Collegiate Invitational, followed his 1-under first round with a par second round and sits at 1-under 143 (71-72), tied with Arizona State's Jesper Kennegard for the lead. TCU's Johan de Beer is second at par 144, three strokes ahead of those in fourth.

Vogel began the day 2-over after four holes, but finished at 2-under the rest of the way, including birdies on 5, 13 and 18.

Freshman Martin Trainer is tied for 13th at 6-over 150 (72-78) while freshman Stewart Hagestad is tied for 28th at 10-over 154 (75-79). Trainer is eyeing his team-best fifth top 21 finishes.

Sophomore Steve Lim is tied for 38th at 12-over 156 (78-78) while junior Matt Giles is tied for 63rd at 17-over 161 (82-79).

Action finishes Sunday, starting at 8 a.m.
