TUCSON, Ariz. – The Arizona baseball team completed a series sweep of Northern Colorado with an 18-4 victory in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Kindall Field/Sancet Stadium.

Freshman Seth Mejias-Brean drove in five runs and classmate Joey Rickard added three RBI to pace an Arizona offense that poured out 20 hits on the afternoon and matched its season-high in runs scored.

Stephen Manthei earned his first victory of the season out of the bullpen, as he replaced starter Bryce Bandilla in the fourth inning. Manthei pitched 3.0 hitless innings and struck out three.

The visiting Bears took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Wildcats surged back with three unearned runs scored in the home half of the second inning off UNC starter Joe Willman.

Willman suffered the loss after pitching 4.0 innings in which he gave up nine hits, two walks and eight total runs – five earned.

Arizona added two runs in the second and a solo run in the fourth to take a 6-2 lead, before exploding for five runs each in the fifth and sixth frames to blow the game open at 16-2.

The Wildcats No. 4-9 hitters combined to hit 16-for-26 in the game and scored 16 of the team’s 18 runs in the game. Steve Selsky and Robert Refsnyder turned in three-hit days at the plate, while Refsnyder, Alex Mejia and Bryce Ortega scored at least three runs each.

Nick Cunningham and Tyler Hale pitched scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth frames, respectively, to close out the game.

The win pushes UA’s win streak to six games, which is the longest streak since late in the 2008 regular season.

Arizona will put that streak on the line this week as it hosts a two-game series against Wichita State March16-18. The series will begin on Tuesday, March 16, at 6 p.m. at Kindall Field/Sancet Stadium.
