California Closes Out Regular Season on Saturday

The California Golden Bears close out the regular season this week with a road tri-meet in the Mile High City, taking on Denver and Arizona. The meet takes place at 6:00 p.m. Mountain Time in Denver. Live stats will be available for the meet.

Last Week: Davis Tri-Meet California stayed above the 190 point threshold for the second consecutive week, earning a team score of 190.650.

All-Around Freshman Madisyn O'Brien, who has been limited by an ankle injury the previous two meets, was back to competing in the All-Around, earning a 38.075, her second highest total for the season. Avery Gee, the Bears other all-arounder, was .050 off of her season high score, earning a 38.300 total for her four scores.

Vault The Bears showed their greatest consistency on the vault, with no gymnast logging less than a 9.525. Freshman Chelsea Spomer led the Bears with a 9.675., her highest score in any event in her young career.

Bars The Bears challenges with the bars continued. It was again their lowest-scoring event. Arla Rosenzweig, however, posted her season-best bars score with a 9.600.

Beam Cal is ranked ninth in the West Region on the beam and on the floor, their two top showings. They have an RQS of 47.280, a mark they far surpassed this week, earning a 47.950. Cal had three gymnasts earn a 9.7 or higher. Madisyn O'Brien earned a career-high 9.775. Junior Avery Gee scored a season-best 9.750. Freshman Mariesah Pierce earned a 9.700.

Floor For the sixth consecutive meet, the floor was Cal's strongest event. Avery Gee matched Mariesah Pierce high score of the season, earning a 9.850 on her routine, tying her for first place. It was the first time this season a Bear gymnast has had the top mark in an event. As a team, the Bears edged TWU on the floor, earning a 48.500 to TWU's 48.300. Mariesah Pierce has a 9.825 and Alex Leggitt earned a season-high 9.750.

Next Up - Pac-10 Championships, Saturday, March 27 The Golden Bears' final opportunity to raise their team and individual regional qualifying marks will come on Saturday, March 27 when they compete at the Pac-10 Championships in Tucson. The Championship will be filmed and aired on a taped-dealy broadcast by FSN (locally on Comcast bay Area).

Troester Rankings Cal ranks at No. 57 in the latest Troester rankings with a Regional Qualifying Score of 190.265. Calis currently ranked tenth in the West Region.
