No. 7 Softball Take To The Road To Face Some Stiff Competition at the Judi Garmen Classic

The Sun Devil Softball squad (24-2 overall) will finally take to the road for their first away games of the season as they head to Fullerton, Calif. to compete in the annual Judi Garmen Classic. Awaiting the Sun Devils there are games versus No. 12 Texas, No. 11 Oklahoma, DePaul, UNLV and Purdue. Games will run from Thursday to Sunday at Cal State Fullerton’s Softball Complex.
Against the Texas Longhorns, ASU comes in with an even 5-5 record against the Longhorns with their last meeting coming in Palm Springs last year at the Palm Springs Classic which saw ASU run off with a 12-4 win in five innings with Hillary Bach pitching and home runs from Renee Welty and Caylyn Carlson doing the job. All-time Clint Myers is 1-1 against the Longhorns after ASU fell to Texas in 2006 in the WCWS.
No. 8 Oklahoma will step to the Sun Devils next on Thursday’s second game where they’ll face ASU for the 20th time in series history since 1979 where ASU holds a 10-9 overall record, after a tough 8-6 loss last season in Palm Springs where the Sooners jumped out to an eight run lead in the first which ASU never recovered from. Head Coach Clint Myers has only met the Sooners that once now holding a 0-1 record against them.
Friday morning holds the DePaul Blue Demons waiting for the Devils in the pale moonlight in the clash of the underworld where ASU holds a 5-1 all-time record against the Chicago natives since 2000. Last meeting was last year at this very tournament where ASU came out on top 4-0 with Hillary Bach taking her 12th win of the season.
Next up on Saturday are the UNLV Rebels, a team that ASU has become fairly familiar with in the last few years. Since 1980, ASU has racked up a 23-5 all-time record against the Rebels with Clint Myers holding a 9-1 record in his five years at the helm.
Last, but not least on Sunday morning, the Sun Devils will face the Purdue Boiler Makers who ASU has faced five times since 1995, holding a 4-1 record. Clint Myers will look for a W in his first meeting against the Boiler Makers.
The Sun Devils return home next week to host their final home series of the 2010 season before opening their Pac-10 slate as they set to host the Cal Poly Mustangs in a four game series in Tempe at Farrington Stadium March 26-28.
