No. 12/13 Bears Blow by Bison, 3-0
March 18, 2010
HONOLULU - The No. 12/13 California softball team got its say against Lipscomb with a 3-0 win on Thursday evening in the second day of the Chevron Spring Fling Tournament.
The Golden Bears (20-5) lost the day before to the Bison, 1-0, in a one-hitter to open the spring break tournament. But today, it was a different story today with Cal scoring its three runs in the second inning and tallying a collective six hits.
There was already a different in the dugout in the Bears' end of the first with Jamia Reid hitting a lead-off triple, though she would be stranded on base.
In the bottom of the second, Lindsey Ziegenhirt led off with a walk and moved to second when Jace Williams singled through the left side. With the next batter - Frani Echavarria - the Bison got the lead runner in Ziegenhirt out at third but the Bears still had runners at first and second.
Jolene Henderson singled to right center, scoring both Williams and Echavarria, and then Henderson advanced to second on the throw. Jamia Reid stepped up and again connected with the ball - this time with a double to left field, plating Henderson.
California had a hit in both the fourth and sixth but could not bring any more runners around to score, but its three-run lead established in the second proved more than enough for a victory.
The Bears will next face host school Hawaii at 8 p.m. PST on Thursday
