Stanford Announces Spring Soccer Schedule

March 19, 2010

STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford women's soccer team has announced its five-event spring schedule and it includes a home tournament and three visits from FC Gold Pride of Women's Professional Soccer.

The Gold Pride includes 2009 Stanford stars Kelley O'Hara and Ali Riley, both first-round draft choices after leading the Cardinal into its first NCAA championship final. O'Hara, who shattered Stanford season records for goals (26) and points (65), was rewarded for her play with the Hermann Trophy, emblematic of college soccer's top player.

The Gold Pride features Brazilian superstar Marta, the winner of the past FIFA World Player of the Year awards, as well as former Stanford standouts and current U.S. national-team players Nicole Barnhart, in goal, and Rachel Buehler, in defense. However, FC Gold Pride, which opens its regular season on April 11, most likely will not bring its starters to take part in the Stanford matches.

Stanford returns eight starters and 20 letterwinners from its best-ever team that went 25-1 and captured the Pac-10 Conference title, including current junior Christen Press, who is on the verge of breaking school all-time scoring records, and 2008 first-team All-Americans Lindsay Taylor and Teresa Noyola.
