Wise, Williams Earn NABC All-District Honors

TUCSON, Ariz. - Two University of Arizona men's basketball players received all-district honors, as the National Association of Basketball Coaches announced its all-district honors this week.
Wise, a 5-foot-10, 180-pound senior guard from Houston, Texas, was a first-team all-District 20 pick after averaging 14.4 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game in 31 appearances. Wise shot 38.6 percent (130-of-337) from the field, 36.0 percent from three-point range (50-of-139) and 87.8 percent (137-of-156) from the free throw line to go with a team-leading 54 steals. He scored in double figures 23 times this season, including two 30-point games. Wise was a first-team all-Pac-10 selection this season. It is the first time that Wise has earned all-district honors from the NABC.
A 6-foot-8, 235-pound forward from La Mirada, Calif., Williams earned a sport on the all-District 20 second team after posting team-leading totals of 15.7 points, 7.1 rebounds and a .574 (162-of-282) field goal percentage. He finished in double figures 28 times and had nine 20-point games and four double-doubles to his credit. Williams closed the regular season ranked eighth in the Pacific-10 Conference in scoring (15.7), sixth in rebounding (7.1), fourth in FG percentage (.574), and third in defensive rebounds (4.9). He scored a season-high 28 points on Dec. 2 vs. UNLV and set a school record with 21 free throw attempts on Nov. 23 vs. Wisconsin. He was a first team all-Pac-10 selection and the conference's Freshman of the Year.
Wise and Williams are the 88th and 89th Arizona players to earn all-district honors from the NABC since 1952. They both are eligible for NABC All-America honors, which will be announced on April 3.
Arizona closed the 2009-10 campaign with a 16-14 record overall, including a 10-8 mark in Pac-10 play.
