Pries Fires Off Two-Hit Shutout Over Pepperdine

March 20, 2010

STANFORD, Calif.-- Jordan Pries (2-1) pitched a two-hit shutout and No. 23-ranked Stanford (9-4) took the series with visiting Pepperdine (6-11) following an 10-0 Saturday victory.

Jake Schlander drove in four runs, including a three-run homer (2) in the seventh, as the Cardinal scored nine runs over its final three innings to take its third weekend series of the year.

Pries, who came into his fourth start of the season with a 5.00 ERA, pitched to the minimum over the first 16 batters, retiring 13 in a row until a one-out double in the sixth. The efficient righthander used just 31 pitches through three innings, and 59 pitches through five. He finished with six strikeouts and two walks.

For Pries, a sophomore, it was his second complete game and first career shutout.

Stephen Piscotty went 3-for-4 with RBI singles in the three-run sixth and three-run eighth, while Adam Gaylord added three hits, including a two-run double, also in the sixth.

Stanford scored three times in sixth to lead 4-0. Piscotty's RBI single made it 2-0, before a Gaylord two-run double doubled the score. Piscotty came around to score following a leadoff double in the second. Schlander's sacrifce fly gave Stanford a 1-0 lead.

The Sunday finale is at 1 p.m at Sunken Diamond.
